Two ‘Top Chef’ Restaurants to Try on Maui
November 12, 2018
Local Top Chef alum Sheldon Simeon has opened his newest highly anticipated restaurant, Lineage, at the Shops of Wailea. The 80-seat restaurant, which opened in October, highlights local Hawaiian cuisine in a modern way. The restaurant describes Lineage as coming “from a place in the past – a place where everyone gathered around and shared together the food that was laid out in front of them – food that is from the heart and filled with memories. Dishes will pay homage to those who inspire Chef Sheldon, and will celebrate his familial roots (or Lineage), as well as the vast bounty of the islands.”
The menu features familiar local dishes as well as favorite family recipes of the chef—like his dad’s pork guisantes, a Filipino stew of pork and peas, the number one requested dish at his family’s gatherings. You’ll also find Huli Huli Chicken, Poke, Katsu Curry and Maui Flying Saucers, a staple food found at county fairs. To emphasize the family-style of eating, guests are offered a snack from the restaurant’s pupu cart upon arrival.
Check out Chef Simeon’s other restaurant on Maui, Tin Roof, which he opened in Kahului in 2016. This counter service spot does incredible (and super affordable) take-out bowls of local favorites like Poke, Kau Kau Tins, sandwiches, noodles and more with innovative and delicious daily specials that usually go quick.
Chef Simeon was born in Hilo on the Big Island and attended Maui Culinary Academy. He competed in the 10th and 14th seasons of Bravo Network’s “Top Chef,” winning Fan Favorite both times.
